Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled and halved
  • 1 cup ice cubes preferably crushed for smoother blending
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract adds depth to the flavor
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest freshly grated for bright citrus notes

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Place the hulled and halved strawberries into the blender.
  2. Add the ice cubes to the blender, filling it up to the top for a chilled, icy texture.
  3. Pour in the vanilla extract and sprinkle the freshly grated lemon zest over the berries and ice.
  4. Secure the lid on the blender and start blending on low speed, gradually increasing to high until the mixture is smooth and frosty, about 30 seconds.
  5. Pause the blender and check the texture; it should be icy yet smooth. If it’s too thick, add a splash of water or lemon juice and blend briefly.
  6. Pour the chilled slushie into glasses, and if desired, garnish with extra lemon zest or a whole strawberry on the rim.

Notes

For an extra boost of flavor, add a splash of lemon juice or a few mint leaves before blending.
