Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef 80% lean
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese sliced into thin strips
  • optional baking spray or oil

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing bowls
  • Cooking spoon
  • Baking parchment or silicone mat

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix everything together gently until well incorporated, being careful not to overmix.
  3. Use your hands to shape the mixture into small, uniform meatballs about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are browned and cooked through. You should hear a gentle sizzle and see the meatballs develop a firm texture.
  5. Remove the cooked meatballs from the oven and let them cool slightly so they are easy to handle.
  6. Take thin slices of cheese and carefully wrap each meatball in strips to resemble a mummy, leaving small gaps for 'eyes' or just overlapping for a bandaged effect. Ensure the cheese sticks well and covers most of each meatball.

Notes

You can add small olive or peppercorn pieces on top of the cheese to mimic eyes for extra spooky effect.
